Quick & Easy Solid Stain
The bulk of a project is often done in the preparation. Some projects move fast because the surface is in good shape while others take a lot longer because of how much prep work is required. We sped through this porch job in particular because the boards were structurally sound with only light greying and a few scuffs on the treads. They were covered by a ceiling so there was very little dirt, and because the previous stain was essentially completely gone, very little sanding was required. With no major repairs needed, we could focus on a straightforward clean-and-finish.
We gave the deck a thorough wash to remove dust and surface residue, allowed a proper dry time, then did some minor sanding to remove whatever left over stain remained. From there it was all brush and roller: cut the risers and stringers, then finish the field boards in long passes for an even coat. The client opted for a solid stain because they were looking for something more durable to protect the wood and make it last.
After some light prep and two coats, the porch has a consistent, warm tone that complements the brick and stands up to foot traffic. Start to finish, this was an efficient turnaround without compromising durability.
