Bright Ceiling, Crisp Trim

This front porch had great character but the finish was tired. The bead board ceiling was dark, the posts and rails were extremely scuffed, and old paint on the beams had long past failed. The goal was to bring back the details and brighten the whole entry.

First was a TSP wash, then very heavy scraping and sanding. Bare wood was spot primed and the ceiling was specialty primed so those wood knots wouldn’t show through later. Then everything was brushed and rolled for sharp lines around the masonry. Two coats of exterior finish in a clean white tone lifted the ceiling, tightened up the posts, and gave the rail panels a smooth, consistent look.

Now the porch feels taller and brighter, and the brickwork stands out the way it should.
