Fresh Colours for a New Hamburg Staple
MeMe’s Café is a fixture on the main street in New Hamburg, and the owners wanted the outside to reflect the warmth and care they put inside. Years of sun and weather had taken its toll. Peeling paint around the display windows, flaking and peeling on the doors and trim, and a colour scheme that no longer suited the building or the café’s brand.
We approached it like a preservation job. First was a full TSP wash to clean up all the surfaces. Then masonry was wire brushed to remove flaking paint, and the weathered trim was scraped and sanded before priming. Bare wood and patched areas were sealed, and edges were caulked. Everything was finished by brush and roller for crisp, controlled lines on the heritage mouldings.
The owners selected a fresh green palette that grounds the façade, frames the picture windows, and lets the signature purple sign stand out. The new tones complement the surrounding brickwork and the neighbouring storefronts, so the café feels connected to the streetscape rather than competing with it.
After 57 total hours of work, the entrance looks inviting, the windows are properly defined, and the historic details have their depth back. It’s the kind of update you notice from down the block, and it matches the welcome you get once you step inside.
